Audio/Audio-visual content

On the Empire website you can see how they use audio/audio-visual content through their use of trailers in order to promote the product. They use audio visual content such as the Sex Education trailer and the "exclusive clip" from Warrior as it is an effective tool of promotion as well as being a tool they cannot incorporate in their print magazines. The "exclusive clip" is used to lure in the audience and offer them information and content that other magazines cannot. It will also create a sense of trust within the audience as they believe that Empire is a reliable provider of never before seen content. Additionally, the clip will show part of the product that has not been released before, so you can expect the same costuming, lighting and sound that is consistent of the product. Furthermore, the Trailer used to promote Sex Education will show a preview of the programmes next season. It will depict the same characters, setting, sound, and all other aspects of mise en scene as the previous seasons. Sex education is widely know TV show created by Netflix that Empire is focusing on by making it the main image and headline of the website and mentioning that it is "Confirmed To End" as it will gain attraction. Due to the shows success, Empire has maid it the main focus because it will garner attention from the audience quickly not only because of the products popularity but also because it is coming to an end which the audience may not have known and will want to find out more which is what Empire is offering them by placing the trailer of the final season as their main headline. Empire also uses lots of visual content through their images that feature current and popular celebrities and captures from the projects they star in. Empire uses these visual elements to entice the audience as they will recognise the celebrities and may want to read the article more because of this. The image for the article focusing on "The Boys" would intrigue an audience as the makeup used on the actor shows blood covering him while his facial expression shows a disturbed and frightened look which will interest the audience as they will want to find out more about the gory image as audiences are typically drawn in by distressing subjects.

Total Film uses audio-visual content such as "Recommended videos for you..." to create a bond between its brand and its audience as their experience on the website will be tailored to them which will make the audience feel recognised and that the brand is one they can rely on. Furthermore, Total Film also uses audio-visual elements through pop-up videos that the audience can either click on and watch or tap the close tab if they are not interested. This gives the audience information on other content that they may want to know more about. Total Film also uses other visual elements as seen in the second screenshot from their website, in a similar way to Empire's webpage as they both use images of popular celebrities and images from current media products in order to capture the attention of the audience as the visual aspects will make them more likely to view the article if they recognise the celebrity or if the imagery is visually pleasing and interests them. The way the visual aspects entice an audience is through the facial expressions of the actors as some look angry and/or distressed which is intriguing to an audience.
